Logan 58
Athens 54 a final

Justin Wolfe the 6-6 big man for Logan had his way in the paint scoring 25 points on the night as the Bulldogs had no one to counter the Logan size inside … Athens scoring duo Brayden Markins and Brayden Whiting put up 18 each on the night … this one was tied at 54-54 with 1:29 to play … Athens had the ball twice on the good side of the court but turned it over each time without getting a shot up … Logan’s Tegan Myers went 4/6 from the line to give the Chiefs the win over D2 Athens at McAfee … a great effort for the Bulldogs as they were down as many as 13 points into the 3rd period before making a push to get the lead with 3:54 to play at 52-50 Athens … only to be outscored with 2 Wolfe buckets by Wolfe before the Myers trips to the line to seal the game …

… Pfloyd’s official “UN-official” Napkin Stats – Athens

TOs …. 10
PnP …. 9 fgs/ 18 points in the paint

… great effort by the Bulldogs of Coach Cozart to get back into a game that had them trailing by double digits for the better part of 3+ quarters missing the big presence and strength of Isaiah Butcher along with the 3rd scoring threat of the 6-3 big for AHS … without Butcher AHS has to put 6-2 Brayden Whiting down low on the post – out of position, outsized … the dawgs having to rethink the offense and defense along with changes in rotations … tough situation going into the post season …

… Pfloyd’s official “UN-official” Napkin Stats – Logan

… D1 Logan vs D2 Athens … Logan put the ball in the hands of their big man in the middle Justin Wolfe for 25 points … Wolfe had 4 offensive boards for putback baskets in the 1st quarter alone … 13 rebounds for the game … Logan did an excellent job of feeding the post the entire game, going over the top of the smaller Athens defenders in the post … Logan takes on another SEOhio opponent in the Warren Warriors this Tuesday at Logan …

This one was a game between 2 teams looking for identities … looking to put a signature “W” on the card to set the tone for games to follow … the Purple of Logan started 2 sophs,1 junior and a senior – Myers/Wolfe with limited varsity experience , Mason Frasure/Colten Castle/Nolan Robinette with zero varsity experience … prior to LAST season Coach Hoops and the U had graduated the bulk of their lineup much like the Chiefs THIS season – last season , a rebuilding season for the U, saw the Shermans playing everyone, looking to find lineups that worked/looking to have youngsters take on roles at the varsity levels that would lead to “W” … last night’s contest showed “the difference a year makes” …… the opening quarter of the game was excellent for both TEAMS ! especially the Purple of Logan – as the “young” Chiefs came out looking to be “ready” for the speed, strength needed to play at the varsity level … excellent ball movement, offensive player movement, seeing the floor and getting the ball in the hands of players on the floor where they could be comfortable and score – all 5 LHS starters dented the score book – the Chiefs big man in the middle made it look easy on the blocks scoring 3 fgs down low, Tegan Myers continued where heleft off in scoring the rock vs Lancaster earlier in the week hitting a deuce and a triple (5 pts) … Mason Frasure (pg) did an outstanding job looking the part of ballhandler, distributed the ball well, and got into the paint for 4 points of his own … Nolan Robinette added a FT after being fouled in the paint … an excellent 1st 8 minutes for the Logan boys … for the U? no backing down by the Shermans as THEIR floor general and leading scorer Isaac Little did what he does best – used his quickness and strength to get into the paint keeping the U within eye shot knocking down 4 fgs (his only fgs of the game) 8 points in the opening quarter … only one other starter scored in the qtr for Unioto – Reece Wheeler added 1/2 FTs … what proved to be foreshadowing of things to come the U’s first man off the bench – Cameron DeBord (jr) came off the bench to add 4 points to help the U stay close … Logan 18 Unioto 13 after 1 …
Round 2 (yes a boxing reference) saw both teams turn up the D … BOTH teams seemed more intent on being physical … Logan looked to lose the offensive flow of the 1st quarter … the U looked frustrated with the physical defense of the Chiefs on the perimeter … neither TEAM was able to put together much on the scoreboard … the board showed Logan 21-15 at the 5:19 mark of the 2nd – Logan would score only 7 points in the next 13:19 of the contest … UHS went on a 26-7 run to the end of the 3rd period … Logan 24 Unioto 21 at intermission … Unioto came out of the locker room – focused on defense, determined on offense … Offensively Logan was held to 3 points in quarter more importantly with the game turning more physical/more fouls being called both ways, Logan was unable to get it done from the FT line – going 1/6 from the charity stripe in the 3rd … while the Chiefs were unable to put it together offensively, the U hit for 18 points in the 3rd … starting out going into the paint for buckets by Reese Wheeler (6 pts) including a transition dunk for 2 … as Logan was unable to capitalize at the Free Throw line , the Shermans went 6/6 in the 3rd period … Cameron DeBord continued to make his presence felt defensively he added a triple and 2 FTs in the third along with a trey by Josh Lambert the period ended with Unioto at 39 Logan 27 end of 3 … the final quarter started with each team trading buckets to 5:23 mark on the clock when Nolan Robinette (6) drained back to back triples … Colten Castle climbed on the momentum wagon adding a trey , a deuce and 2 FTs (7 pts) at 1:58 to play the Chiefs had closed to 42-48 … the U offense was held to 3 fgs in the 4th BUT the floor leader – Isaac Little – was put on the line for 10 FTs in the period nailing 9 which ended up being the difference in the game – the FT line – Logan in the 4th going 6/11 in the quarter Unioto 12/14 down the stretch … the U’s final 8 points were from the line …
Unioto 56 Logan 47 a final …

Scoring …Colten Castle 12, Mason Frasure 9, Tegan Myers 8, Justin Wolfe 8, Nolan Robinette 8, Colton Ruff 2

FTs … 10/23
TOs … 14
PnP … 9 fgs/18 points in the paint
PnT … 1 fg/2 points in transition
PBck … 1 fg/2 points on putback buckets

… for about 11 minutes in the first 2 quarters the Chiefs looked like a complete team – offensively getting points from everyone on the floor, defensively using the quickness on the perimeter – Frasure/Myers/Castle to harass on the perimeter and help in the paint – LHS looked outstanding … with a group of youngsters at times you will run into dry spells offensively – finding that go to guy who will get a bucket when needed most will come … for the game Logan showed the ability to have balanced scoring – 5 players show the ability to be double digit scorers … Chiefs left the U 1-1 but left with a whole lot of upside for a group of talented youngsters …

… Pfloyd’s official UN-official Napkin Stats – Unioto

Scoring … Isaac Little 20, Cameron DeBord 14, Reese Wheeler, Josh Lambert 6, Carson DeBord 5, Nate Keiser 2, Jeremy Lambert 2
3 Pointers … 4/15 … Josh Lambert 2, Carson DeBord 1, Cameron DeBord 1
FTs … 22/29
TOs … 15
PnP … 10 fgs/20 points in the paint
PnT … 4 fgs/8 points in transition
PBck … 1 fg/2 points on putback buckets

… the MORE experienced varsity TEAM got the W last night – when the game got away from being a game due to the physicality/chippy-ness the experience paid off as the U didn’t lose focus/at the beginning of the 3rd quarter it seemed that the chippy/physical play made the U MORE focused/MORE determined which led to the 26-7 run that put the U in control … the U still needs that consistent perimeter shooter but Coach Hoops has the ability to call on 9 deep – the positive coming from playing big numbers last year in the U’s rebuilding season … Zane Trace and Adena MAY be the teams to beat in the SVC this season but don’t sleep on a good Unioto squad …
